The first practice of Colts training camp has ended and HC Shane Steichen wants fans and media alike to know that Anthony Richardson will make like Forrest Gump: he won’t stop running. WESTFIELD — Fans poured into the Grand Park bleachers hours before the first practice of the 2024 Colts training camp kicked off, eyes peeled for the return of its franchise QB Anthony Richardson.
It’s been 291 days since Colts fans were able to see Anthony Richardson healthy and suited up to play football. With so much speculation of Richardson since he went down in that Week 5 matchup against AFC South foe Tennessee Titans, a now-healthy version of Indy’s starting QB looks to silence the doubters with his typical lead-by-example self.
Although he merely got his feet wet during those first 5 weeks as an NFL quarterback, the discourse that once surrounded Richardson’s potential has evolved from a talent standpoint to a durability discussion.

Indianapolis’ starting quarterback will be a full-go for the team’s training camp. The Indianapolis Colts joined a handful of other NFL teams to report to training camp on Wednesday officially. Local media members got the chance to speak with several players and Colts general manager Chris Ballard.
As expected, one of the key areas of discussion surrounded the Colts’ signal-caller quarterback Anthony Richardson, whom Ballard said isn’t expected to have any limitations going into camp.
“I’m not expecting any limitations right now,” Ballard said.

3 DAYS AGO - Bob Scheer-USA TODAY Sports
When a ranking like this is made, what does it mean for the list as a whole? The Indianapolis Colts got a steal when they selected Zaire Franklin in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft. In March of this year, the Colts did the necessary work of ensuring Franklin is around for the foreseeable future by inking him to a three year extension for $31 million. That isn’t too bad for a linebacker that had the second most tackles in 2023 and the second most over the last two seasons. Franklin was recognized for his efforts when he was selected as the 100th best player in the NFL on their top 100 list. That honor was sweet until it was reduced to virtually nothing when Aaron Rodgers came in at 92nd.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor could have a monstrous 2024 season, reminiscent of his 2021 NFL All-Pro campaign. According to general manager Chris Ballard, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is poised to have a ‘big year’ entering 2024 fully healthy—and now paired with 2nd-year dual-threat quarterback Anthony Richardson for (hopefully) a full season:

While he was limited to 10 games (7 starts) last year after a prolonged recovery from past offseason ankle surgery, beginning 2023 on PUP—and later suffering a thumb injury that required minor in-season surgery, Taylor showed in the finale that he’s fully back.
Even without Richardson behind center, who was lost to a season-ending shoulder injury, Taylor showed flashes of his former 2021 NFL First-Team All-Pro form, in which he Collapse

Perhaps Colts general manager Chris Ballard knows best, but he’s currently taking a major leap of faith regarding trusting a very young Indy secondary to hold up all season. Despite the Horseshoe faithful’s fair share of concern right now, Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard remains confident in his young secondary on training camp’s eve (via ESPN’s Stephen Holder):
The full quote, transcribed: "We like our young players. And I'm not saying we won't do something. We definitely could. But I want to see these young guys get after it and compete."Is that a wee bit more open ended than earlier? Perhaps. Up to the individual.— Stephen Holder (@HolderStephen) July 24, 2024
Clearly, Ballard hasn’t completely ruled out the idea of bringing in a late veteran reinforcement to what otherwise looks like a very ‘green’ group at both cornerback and safety—with the latter appearing to be even in a more questionable Collapse

The Colts are not actively engaging longtime veteran center Ryan Kelly’s representation in contract negotiations right now—as it appears they may be taking a ‘wait-and-see’ approach this upcoming season with a potential ‘heir in the wings.’ According to 4x NFL Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly, the Indianapolis Colts front office is currently not prioritizing a contract extension for the 31-year-old pending 2025 free agent veteran center (via The Athletic’s James Boyd):

The future appears brighter than it’s recently been in Indianapolis, but the Horseshoe still has some work to do. According to multiple ESPN experts (subscription), the Indianapolis Colts rank 19th in their 2024 NFL ‘Future Power Rankings’:
19. Indianapolis Colts
Overall score: 78.2
Reason for hope: The Colts still might not know for sure whether Anthony Richardson is a franchise quarterback, considering he was limited to four starts before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in his rookie year, but they do know he has the talent and makeup to be one. And if nothing else happened last season, the Colts came out of it feeling absolutely fantastic about the choice they made at head coach with Shane Steichen. — Graziano
Reason for concern: There are issues with the offensive line, at least relative to what the team has invested in the position group. With the NFL’s second-most cap dollars allocated to the group, you’d expect a better Collapse

The Colts have some recent injury updates set to kick off team training camp on Thursday. The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that the team has placed cornerback Chris Lammons on Active/PUP List, with defensive tackle Raekwon Davis being added to the Active/Non-Football Illness to start training camp respectively.
Per Colts general manager Chris Ballard, Lammons is recovering from offseason surgery on his ankle that could keep him out the first weeks of team training camp. Meanwhile, Davis was one of the Colts big offseason free agent additions—along with veteran Joe Flacco.

The Colts have some talented options to choose from for their first career Pro Bowl nods, but I narrow it down to five. The Indianapolis Colts have a number of talented players, even a few that have been multi-time career NFL Pro Bowlers—namely Quenton Nelson, Ryan Kelly, and DeForest Buckner.
However, there are a handful of other impact Colts players, who I think could make their Pro Bowl career debuts following the 2024 regular season.
Let’s take a look at five Colts players who could make a very compelling case by year-end:
