According to NJ.com’s Mike Kaye, the Philadelphia Eagles head coaching interview with Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni, which initially began on Tuesday, has extended into Wednesday:
“The Eagles’ head-coaching interview with Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni extended into Wednesday, a person with knowledge of the meeting told NJ Advance Media.
Sirianni’s initial meeting with the Eagles on Tuesday went well, according to another person with knowledge of the situation. The second source said there is optimism about the staff that Sirianni could put together in Philadelphia.
The Eagles are doing their due diligence on Sirianni, seeking out feedback on the candidate from outside sources. Sirianni has worked under former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich for the past three years. According to a third source, a recommendation from Reich would likely go a long way for Sirianni’s candidacy.

Should the Colts pursue this talented pass rusher? Free agency is right around the corner and with the projected lower salary cap, the Colts are one of the few teams that actually have an opportunity to spend this offseason. If the current projections hold, the Colts are looking at nearly 66 million in cap space heading into free agency. A good chunk of that will get eaten up by likely extensions for T.Y. Hilton, Philip Rivers, and an early extension for Braden Smith but the Colts will have room to work with.
With the cap space the Colts have, they have to be aggressive in getting a legit pass rusher in free agency. This is a deep class on the edge and the Colts need to acquire an impact perimeter player. One such free agent that is my personal favorite target is Bengals defensive end, Carl Lawson.
Lawson was incredible for the Bengals this past year as he totaled 6 sacks, 24 QB hits, and 34 hurries. He actually had double the total Collapse

Rhodes was an excellent signing for the Colts this past offseason The Indianapolis Colts decided to roll the dice this past offseason when they signed veteran cornerback Xavier Rhodes to be their starter alongside youngster Rock Ya-Sin. Rhodes, a former All-Pro, was coming off the worst season of his career where he allowed five touchdowns in coverage and a passer rating of 131.1 as the primary defender.
While this signing had every reason to fail, it surprisingly paid off for the Colts’ in a big way. Rhodes solidified himself as the number one corner on the team early in the year and played at a high level throughout the season.
So today we are going to look at some key talking points from his 2020 season and look at why the Colts should prioritize him this offseason in free agency.

How did Jack Doyle get so wide open? Trailing late in the fourth quarter against the Buffalo Bills in the wildcard round of the playoffs, veteran tight end Jack Doyle found himself wide open in the back of the endzone for a score that nearly brought the Colts back into the game. While the play didn’t lead to a victory, it is hard to not wonder just how Doyle got so wide open in the back of the endzone.
I did a bit of research into the designed play and found a route combination in a 2017 Eagles Training Camp playbook that I have that is very similar to what they ran on Saturday. The play is called “Gun Trey LT Flex ‘F’ Peel 3 Jet CH Rattler Pump.” What the Colts essentially do with this play is place Doyle in the ‘Z’ position which means I am giving this play call the shorthand name of “Doyle Out and Up.”
With that play design in mind, I break down why the call was able to fool the Bills on Saturday and lead to a wide-open Collapse

21. Colts

I gave a lot of thought to a left tackle to replace the retiring Anthony Castonzo, but if the Colts return Philip Rivers for one final run, I imagine they’d address LT in free agency—no reason to have a rookie blindside protector when you’re trying to compete on a short-term window. VotingMachine (Stampede Blue Comments): The NFL made some Covid changes that I really like with the Practice Squad game eligibility. I think that really helps the team roster decisions. A player that can be a valuable injury backup can be left off of the 53-man roster, and when that injury happens, get pulled into games.
Is that popular around the league? Will it get implemented again in 2021?
Also, I like the 7-team playoff field and only ONE team with a bye. It sure made the end of season games meaningful this year. Is that coming back in 2021?

The longtime Chargers quarterback was set to become a free agent after finishing a 1-year, $25 million debut deal with the Colts. He was presumably going to take the opportunity to contemplate continuing his playing career this early offseason—having already had a post-playing career job lined up to become the head football coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama.
However, while his retiring isn’t actually surprising, the early timing of it might be:
“It’s just time,” Rivers said via the Union-Tribune late Tuesday night from his home in Indianapolis. “It’s just right.”
“I can sit here and say, ‘I can still throw it. I love to play,’ ” Rivers said. “But that’s always going to be there. I’m excited to go coach high school football.”
